Data Deep Dives

Overview

Data Deep Dives are quarterly, hands-on learning sessions designed specifically for the Fred Hutch community.

They spotlight practical data science tools, methods, and best practices developed by experts within the Data Science & Software (DS&S) and Data Governance (DG) teams in the Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO).

Think of them as an opinionated guide to how we do data science at Fred Hutch.

Each session focuses on real-world, Hutch-relevant applications — helping participants understand what’s available, how it works, and how to apply it in their own research or operational work.

Deep Dives are designed to be:

  • Practical
  • Interactive
  • Repeatable
  • Hutch-specific
  • Grounded in supported infrastructure

Rather than traditional lecture-style seminars, Deep Dives emphasize doing over listening through:

  • Hands-on examples
  • Interactive discussions
  • Live demos
  • Shared problem-solving

What Makes a Deep Dive Different?

Deep Dives are:

  • Not one-off lectures
  • Not purely theoretical
  • Not tool advertisements

They are practical working sessions grounded in Hutch reality.

Participants should leave knowing:

  • What tools or processes exist
  • When to use them
  • How to get started
  • Where to go next for support
